Charli Green

Charles Winston Green was born on September 2nd, 1945 in Memphis, Tennessee, USA.

“Charli Green Bigband” is a professional orchestra conducted by Charles W. Green.

After Music High School, Charli worked as a trumpeter with the US-Airforce band.
With this orchestra he first toured the United States and later in Spain. He studied at the conservatory in Madrid (Spain) trumpet (major) and followed jazz- and improvisation lessons with Lou Bennet and Vince Benedetti.
He also followed master classes with a.o. James Stamp and conducting courses with Perry White.
In 1970 Charles came to Holland to follow up his trumpet studies at the Maastricht Conservatory with Wim Groot (at that time principal solo trumpeter at the Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest in Amsterdam).

1981 Charles Green was affiliated to the Amsterdam conservatory as professor in trumpet as well as ensemble- and bigband leader at the jazz department.

Since 2010 he is retired but still gives private lessons. Besides he also does clinics and workshops, which are supported by Roy Benson Wind instruments where he recently developed his own Charli Green Signature trumpet.

When he is not performing and teaching he writes and arranges for several ensembles next to his own Charli Green Bigband.

The Charli Green Bigband proved, that it creates its own sound.
Charli has a clear vision of how he wants his bigband to sound!
Charles´ years of experience makes the “Charli Green Bigband” take its own place in the jazz-scene.

Pure Bigband jazz, like Bigband jazz is meant to be!
